MazArt Foundations Course

The Start Here: MazArt Foundations Course is a complete introduction to the MazArt Method — the simple underpainting and four-value system I use throughout the Academy to build realistic oil paintings with clarity and control.

Inside, you’ll work through three full start-to-finish painting projects, designed to build confidence step by step:

• Kick Start Still Life — your first complete oil painting using the MazArt four-value method

• The Avocado Study — the same structured approach adapted for water-mixable oils if you prefer a solvent-free option (although you can use traditional oils too)

• The Apple Study — a deeper classical project introducing glazing, layering and refinement, as well as covering important skills such as aspect ratio and selecting colours

You’ll also learn the practical foundations that make oil painting far less overwhelming — materials, brushes, canvas preparation, underpainting, colour mixing, and fat over lean.

Graduation Certificate

Once you have completed the three Foundations projects, you’ll be encouraged to try a Going Solo project.

Choose from three specially prepared paintings where I provide the reference photo, tracing and colour swatches — but without step-by-step video instruction. This is your opportunity to apply the MazArt Method independently and see how much you’ve learned.
