Hazel, Foundation Graduate Number Three

Hazel, Foundation Graduate Number Three

Hazel is our third MazArt Foundation Graduate. Her solo painting is a lovely quiet arrangement: a blue mug, an egg in an egg cup, and a couple of eggs beside them.

Eggs look simple, but they're all about subtle tonal values. White on white, soft shadows, no hard edges to hide behind. Hazel handled it beautifully, and that blue mug gives the whole piece a lift.

The four steps Hazel completed

  • Simple Shapes Still Life, the very first painting in oils
  • The Avocado, which covers water-mixable oils too
  • The Apple Study, all the stages in one painting
  • Going Solo, one still life from a choice of six, painted with no lesson to follow

Congratulations, Hazel. I loved seeing this one come in.
